GPA based scholarships at a later date.

II. High School Grads:
a. In order to be considered for GPA and specific criteria scholarships you must arrange
for your official high school transcript to be sent to Student Awards & Financial Aid
before the March 31st scholarship deadline. Transcripts sent after March 31st will
not be eligible for scholarships.
b. You may also complete the online secondary school scholarship application if you
wish to be considered for entrance scholarships with specific criteria. Link and further
information can be found at
http://registrar.uvic.ca/safa/scholarships/stepstoapplyentrancescholarships.html
2. I have already self-reported in Phase 1, do I have to self-report in Phase 2?
YES!! You must self-report in Phase 2 (February 01 – March 31st) if you wish to be considered
for entrance scholarships based on marks alone. Self-reporting in Phase 1 (November –
December) is for admission purposes only. Phase 2 is for admission and scholarship
consideration. If you do not self-report your grades in Phase 2, you will not be considered for
scholarships at a later date. Self-reporting Phase 2 opens February 01st.
3. What GPA (grade point average) is required to be eligible for entrance
scholarships?
· Canadian high school students need a minimum GPA requirement of 85% or higher or if
completing the International Baccalaureate program, need a minimum of 32 points.
· Canadian transfer students need a minimum GPA of 7.80 on a 9.0 point scale for consideration
4. What high school courses are used to calculate my GPA for entrance scholarships?
As a general rule, the Grade 12 courses required for admission to the faculty of your choice will
be used for determining scholarship eligibility. English 12 is a mandatory course for all faculties.
See:
http://registrar.uvic.ca/undergrad/admissions/requirements/programreq.html for more
information.
5. How do I access the online entrance scholarship application?
For entrance scholarships based on marks and other criteria such as community service and
volunteer experience, you must be admitted to UVic and have a NetLink ID
(https://netlink.uvic.ca ) to sign into the application. To be considered for these scholarships
students must complete the online UVic Entrance Scholarship Application
(www.uvic.ca/applyforawards) between February 01st and May 15th.. Please note if you wish to
be considered for GPA based scholarships only, you must self-report your grade 12 marks on the
Self-Reporting site.
6. What if my final marks change from what I self-reported?
We will be reviewing all final marks in August before issuing scholarship funds. Please note, you
will not be eligible for any entrance scholarships offered if your final marks fall below the
minimum 85% GPA requirement.
*Your Scholarship Package may be adjusted based on your final marks. As early
scholarship offers are based on self-reported marks, students need to maintain their selfreported
GPA to receive their original scholarship offer(s).
**You must maintain a minimum GPA of 90% on your final marks to be eligible for the Come
to Campus Grant.
7. How will I be notified if my scholarship has been changed?
You will receive an email to your email account in early August if your scholarship has been
withdrawn or adjusted.

Yes, if you are unable to meet the scholarship requirements due to extenuating circumstances you
are encouraged to submit an appeal. Appeals should be accompanied by any supporting
documents (letter from your doctor or school counsellor). Appeals are due by September 01st.
Please email your appeal to the Entrance Scholarship Officer. Please note we will not accept an
appeal submitted by anyone other than the UVic student.
9. I don’t have a mark for English 12 yet as I just started the course, should I still selfreport
in Phase 2?
Yes, since English 12 is a required subject, a predicted mark (based on past performance) could
be used in lieu of an interim mark.
10.What if I predict a 100% in all my courses?
Please do not enter a grade of zero or 100% on the self-reporting site. If you believe you will
receive 100% in a specific course, please have your teacher email the Entrance Scholarship
Officer confirming the 100%.
11. Can I still apply for GPA based scholarships after the March 31st deadline?
No, to be fair to all applicants, we will not be considering students for marks based scholarships
after the March 31st self-reporting deadline. We will not be offering any new scholarships
based on May interim marks or final marks in June. Similarly, we will not accept any online
applications after the May 15th deadline.
12.When will I be notified that I have received a scholarship?
Due to the volume of applications that require processing, we notify only successful recipients.
You will receive a scholarship offer letter as soon as a decision has been made and if you accept
the offer, you will receive an electronic Notice of Award in August. Remember the sooner you
apply the sooner you will be considered. Offers can be made as early as the first week of
February!
13. How do I accept my scholarship?
Once you receive your offer letter you can go to your UVic My Page to accept your scholarship
offer. Please note, you will need a NetLink ID (http://netlink.uvic.ca) to access this page.
14. How do I check the status of scholarships I have applied for?
Students can check the status of their application by logging on to their UVic My Page and
clicking on “View the status of your award”. This site will list all scholarships you have applied
for, whether additional requirements for the scholarships are needed, and the status the
application is in: Applied (application has been received), In-Process (processing of application)
or Not Awarded (application for this scholarship was not successful).
15. I am in the Faculty of Humanities and have been offered an entrance scholarship.
Will I keep my scholarship if I switch to another faculty?
This depends on whether we can use the same marks to calculate the GPA that were used for your
first choice of faculty and whether the Terms of the scholarship offered are for a specific faculty
or not (i.e. Engineering entrance scholarships cannot be applied to someone who switched to the
Faculty of Science). You should contact our office for details if you fall into this category.
16. How do I get the Come to Campus Grant?
All scholarship applicants from Canadian high schools who reside from Duncan northward on
Vancouver Island or elsewhere in Canada are automatically assigned the Come to Campus Grant
if their Grade 12 GPA is 90% or higher. Please note we will review final marks in August before
issuing the scholarship.
17.When do I get the Come to Campus Grant money?

Grant funds will be credited to your student tuition fee account the first day of classes in
September along with any other scholarship funding you are receiving from UVic.

www.uvic.ca/entrancescholarships
20. Are there scholarships available for students starting in January?

eligible to apply for and receive consideration for entrance scholarships that would take effect the
following September. You will need to fund your first term at UVic.
To be considered for entrance scholarships based on marks alone you must have a final transcript
sent to our office by June 01st. January students who have not applied for scholarship
consideration prior to the start of their studies can also access the online UVic Transfer
Scholarship application between February 01 – May 15th, for scholarships based on marks and
other criteria.
21. I graduated from high school two years ago; can I still apply for entrance
scholarships?
Yes, high school students need to apply for scholarships within two years of graduating to be
eligible for consideration as a secondary school student. You cannot have completed additional
post-secondary studies elsewhere during this gap period. You must submit an official transcript
to Student Awards & Financial Aid by March 31st to be considered for entrance
scholarships.

students earn to get the funds put into my student fee account?
You will need to bring your passport, along with picture ID, to Accounting Services in order for
them to process your passport.
23. Can I defer my scholarship?
Yes, you will need to apply to Undergraduate Admissions for a deferral of your admission to
UVic. Deferrals are granted for up to one year provided you have no plans to pursue postsecondary
study elsewhere. If your deferral is granted through Undergraduate Admissions, your
scholarship will automatically be deferred. Please notify our office if you have applied for a
deferral.
