Chatelech Grads 2012

UBC Recruitment Advisor Visit - 3 Things To Remember

UBC Visit To Chatelech Secondary October  7, 2011
Of the many things UBC recruitment advisor Ella Wong had to report, three remarks stand out:

1. The deadline for applications to UBC Vancouver has moved up to January 31st, 2012.

Ella's advice: those of you who plan to apply to the Vancouver campus should do so during the Christmas holidays at the latest.

You'll need your marks to apply. You can ask for a transcript from Ms. Clayton in the counselling office, or you can obtain your marks from the Ministry of Education website (https://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/tsw/tsw/student/welcome.jsp? - you'll need your 9 digit personal identification number).

2. There are now two components to applying at UBC Vancouver (next year it will be at both UBC Vancouver and Okanagan) - an academic profile and a personal profile.

First Component - The Academic Profile:
- same process as in prior years where you report your grades online, a process which you should commence prior to your return from Christmas holidays this year.

Second Component - The Personal Profile:
- you will need to provide short answers to the following 5 questions (or questions similar to these):
I.  Name 5 activities you've been involved with (could be work, volunteer, sports, etc).
II. Write a paragraph about your experience having to overcome an obstacle in your life.
III. Write about an experience that caused you to rethink or change your perspective.
IV. Tell something about yourself you'd like the UBC admission group to know (something not covered in the first 3 questions).
V. Provide two references, one of must be your high school counsellor.

3. Make certain you have enough funds for post-secondary school! Use the UBC financial calculator to ensure you have the bucks to go:(http://www.students.ubc.ca/youbc/va/costs.cfm)

Very Important: Do not hit the 'submit' option until you've edited and are satisfied withyour answers to the 5 questions. Once you hit the 'submit' option, UBC Admissions will receive your application and you will not be able to retrieve it - no exceptions.

Finallyuse the following UBC Admissions blog  (http://blog.students.ubc.ca/admissions/) to help guide you through the application process; it is very helpful.
